Swap

Last night was our monthly swap.

It was at Laura's cute house. She has so many cute things she has made and collected it was really fun to see her home.

We are making something new this year. We have made a full year of ornies which are small pillows in different shapes and colors; we made 8 of the same thing so that everyone would get 1 and we would come home with 8 different ornies.

This year we are making tucks which are small rectangle pillows the size of a DVD case and we sew something on the front, either cross stitch, embroidery, or sew on shapes like strawberries. But this year we are only making 1 and then we go and exchange them with someone else.

Laura had us wrap them so we couldn't see them and then she read a short story that had right and left in it and we pasted them back and forth. It is so much fun getting out of the house to visit and we laugh and have a good time. Laura fixed popcorn and orange julius, it was really really good.

It was fun.

Summer
was our theme this month.

Lewaina made it and it is sooooo cute.
I hung it by the front window and it looks like it was made just for that spot.I am so excited to make these because I can spend more time making it look the way I want and not have to hurry to get them done.

It is so much fun to make these (I learn something new every time),
go to everyones houses,
visit and laugh with each other,
and eat
(there is always good food).

I am looking forward to next month
(as long as I am not in the hospital with a new baby).

Baby Girl?

We still aren't absolutely certain it is a girl, but 90% sure is pretty close.

Just to make sure I have been trying to pick out names for boys and girls so we are prepared. If it is a girl I like the names:

Darby Fae Hansen
or
Kortlin Darcy Hansen

and if it is a boy:

Easton Darcy Hansen
or
Thatcher Darcy Hansen

Willy likes the name Darcy and I think it fits good as a middle name with these.

The true test is when we actually see the baby and then Willy said he would decide then. I have just about given up trying to have this conversation with him because he can never remember what we discussed anyway.

I decided to make a blessing dress for our little girl(?) so she and Sadie would have their own.
Lewaina Nelson made mine (one of my Mothers best friends and mine).
It is the one that Sadie was blessed in also and I will pass it down to her.
It is so pretty!The one I made for our new baby is more simple, but I am really happy with the way it turned out.

I didn't make any major mistakes (I think I am getting better at this sewing thing) but I hope that it fits when her blessing day comes.

I also decided to make a baby quilt.
I had a pair of bib overalls that had a stain on them and I haven't worn them in a long time, so I cut them up into quilt blocks and started a quilt.
I didn't have enough of the pink to do the 6" blocks like the levi so I had to search through all my scrap material to find the green that matched and make smaller blocks, but it all worked out and turned out pretty good. Now I just have to visit Walmart someday to get another color to go around the outside, a batting, and a back. I hope I can get it done before the baby arrives in about 5 weeks (and counting down!).

Hansen Reunion

We had our annual Hansen Reunion this last weekend.

It was fun to get together with everyone.We met at the Vernal Recreation Center.
The adults decided to climb before the rock wall closed and it was fun watching them take turns getting to the top. The kids had fun watching at first because they didn't want to climb, but after a while Wyatt decided he wanted to try but we didn't bring him tie up shoes so he couldn't climb this time (next time).
There was a big twisty slide that came down right next to the climbing wall and they had fun going down it, over and over and over and over.
When everyone had enough fun climbing, we all went swimming. The kids were so excited. I didn't get any pictures because I was in the water trying to keep track of each of them going three different directions. We swam for a couple hours until Sadie and I were froze and ready to get out and the boys followed shortly after. Thanks to a friend of Leann's we got to eat pizza before heading home and I am glad because the kids were all starving.

By the time we got home the kids were tired and content in playing quietly in the bedroom, the guys went out and shot guns, while the rest of us sat and visited.

It was a fun weekend.

Cowboy Reading Party

In first grade this year Wyatt's class had a goal of reading 100 books each. Wyatt was excited each time I wrote a book on his list and then after 20 books he got to turn his paper in for a Book-it certificate so he could get a personal pan pizza. Then yesterday was there end of the year reading party which they all earned for each reading at least 100 books.The party took place at the Hidden Springs Ranch a few miles north of Altamont. They started out by doing a little program. They split into groups and told a poem about Cowboys. They sang some cowboy songs and then did the Virginia Reel.
They played cowboy games, shooting bottles with water guns, riding stick horses through a relay, herded their balloon cows into a coral, and got their pictures on a wanted ad.
Then came the swimming.
Everyone was worried that it would be miserable, but just when it was time to swim, the sun came out, the wind didn't blow and it was as good as you could have expected for swimming in May. The kids had tons of fun and no one drown.I am really glad Wyatt remembered his life jacket. He could go where ever he wanted and I didn't have to worry about him drowning. He had so much fun and I had a fun time watching him.

After swimming when everyone finally got changed, they fed us a cowboy lunch; sloppy joes, beans, chips, carrots (Wyatt informed me that cowboys didn't eat carrots), and homemade root beer. It was delicious.

By then the weather couldn't hold back any more so everyone cleaned up and they decided to go back to the school for the awards. Each child was given a certificate for reading at least 100 books, they got to choose a book of their own, and got a sheriffs badge, and a little cowboy face thing to play with.

I am so proud of Wyatt he read at least 138 books this year and has really improved his reading. They were done early so we got to go home. By the time we got home Wyatt was really tired and wouldn't smile, but he would show me his teeth.

It was a really fun day and I am glad that I was able to go with him.

Skinny dipping in the front yard.
My Mother spotted them, and boy were they having fun playing in the water. Except that it was really cold outside, but they assured me the water was great. Clayton had stripped down to his nothings, Sadie was at least in her underwear, and Wyatt decided just to jump in with all his clothes on.
On the way back to the house Sadie told me,
"Mom that was great, you will have to try it."
Why me?
Later they were all informed that they were not to do that again without asking.
With children there is never a dull moment!

Preparedness Project - Portable Changing Station! Yeah it's Done!!!

Today's Project Is:

A Portable Changing Station!

It's perfect for Camping, Traveling, to use Around the House,

and Especially In An Emergency!

Here It Is:

The Pockets in the Left Side Can Hold:

12 Large Diapers.

The Pockets in the Right Side Can Hold:

Baby Lotion, Wet Wipes, Baby Powder,

Baby Rash Cream, Hand Sanitizer, Receiving Blanket,

Extra Socks, Onsies, Binkie, Bottle, and Toys.

It folds up to keep items secure.

I'm going to add handles to the ends but I'm still deciding

what to use to make them.

The Portable Changing Station

can be carried in a canvas bag,

a suitcase, an emergency duffle bag or by the handles.

Also Included:

A Two-Sided Changing Pad.

(One side has plastic and the other side is a towel.)

You Will Need:

1 Hand Towel

1 Bath Towel

Thread to Match

Fabric

Fleece

You will need to measure the size of your hand towel for

the amounts. All hand towels are NOT created equal!

You will need to add an extra 1/3 yard of the printed fabric

to trim the ends of the bath towel.

Blanket Casing

Ribbon

Scissors

1 Large Button

Sewing Instructions for the

Two Sided Changing Pad:

Cut a piece of fabric the same size as your hand towel.

Cut a piece of fleece the same size as your hand towel.

Cut a piece of plastic the same size as your hand towel.

I added ribbon loops between the plastic and the towel.

(Just for looks!)

Clip the hand towel, fabric, fleece, and plastic together in

the order listed above.

Make sure the right sides of the fabric towel are facing each other

with the plastic in between,

and then add the fleece to the top of the fabric.

Sew the two sides and the top seams.

Slip your hand between the plastic and the towel and

turn it out, so that the seam is on the inside.

The fleece will be sandwiched between the towel

and the fabric when you are done.

Use the blanket casing or thick ribbon to finish the raw edges.

I added ric-rac over the ribbon on the outside.

I also added a bow and a button. I put them over the ribbon

where I started and stopped to cover the seam.

Hand-Stitch the bottom to close and finish the changing pad.

Start ribbon in the center-front of the changing pad.

Back Side

To Make the Changing Station:

You will need to cut two 4" strips of fabric the width of

the bath-sized towel ends.

Pin the strips just below the end seams on the towel

with the right side facing the towel.

Sew the fabric to the towel using a 1/2" seam.

Fold the strip in half and flip over the other side of the

end seam of the towel.

You are basically covering the end seam of the towel

with fabric.

Sew the folded edge to the other side of the towel.

The left side is complete.

Fold finished towel ends into the center to make the pockets.

I used diapers to decide the depth of my pockets.

(They are a little less than 1/4 the length of the towel.)

Sew the two outside edges only.

Turn pockets so that the seams are on the inside.

Use diapers as a guide for the pockets.

Everything else seems to fit into that size.

Pin between the diapers to create pockets.

Remove the diapers and sew pocket dividers.

I added a second pin to the bottom to use as a guide

so that my lines would be straight.

I folded the bottom up to the top to match the pins.

Add contents to pockets.

You can fit 2 diapers into each pocket.

(It's a little snug, but it works.)

Fold each side into the center over the pad.

Fold in half from left side to right side.

Right in the middle of the pockets.

Wah Lah . . . A Portable Changing Station!

This can also be used as a clean place to lay a sleeping baby.

Just make sure to flip the changing pad so that the towel side is up.

Add These Items To

Your Portable Changing Station:

Diapers

Wet Wipes

Lotion

Hand Sanitizer

Diaper Rash Cream

Baby Powder

Toys

Binkies

Bottles

Socks

Fingernail Clippers

Bulb Syringe

and a few Extra Nursing Pads.

That should cover it!

I'm in the process of making one for a baby boy,

as well as a denim one for either.

I just needed a girl moment to start off with!

hAppY mOthErs dAy

Mothers Day is kind of a hard day.

I really have to decide what I am going to focus on;
#1
what a wonderful mother I have;
#2
what wonderful children I have and the opportunity I have to be a mother;
#3
or all the many things that I fail at every day and how much harder I need to try to be a better mother.
I really try to think about the first 2 so that I can enjoy the day and my family.

I have the sweetest children and husband in the world.
This is what Wyatt made me for Mothers Day.
He is the sweetest most thoughtful child, and the flower he gave me is still alive which is great, because I don't have a green thumb, so everything usually dies.
Willy got me a plug-in drill, that I have already used a couple times and it is wonderful.
Clayton and Sadie pick endless amounts of flowers for me, and every time they have to give me a kiss.

I LOVE MY FAMILY!

I love my mother.
I am so very grateful for her example and all the
many things she has taught me.
She is my greatest role model and I have always looked
up to her to guide and direct me.
I couldn't say enough about the kind of person she is.
She strives daily to be a woman of God,
and that is exactly what she is,
and I hope to exemplify her in every way.
When I grow up I want to be just like my mother!
I love you mom.
I really hope that you had a wonderful mothers day.I didn't know what to do for my mom, or Willy's mom for mothers day, so I made these pictures of the kids, because I know that they can never have enough of the grandkids.
