Pioneer Day & the Paul Bird Family Reunion

This year we had double celebrations on the same weekend. Grandma & Grandpa Bird decided to have their family reunion on the 24th because most of us come to the celebration anyway so we could have one big weekend. Friday night was dutch oven potatoes & bbq chicken with pot luck. Willy & I missed it because it was my 10yr class reunion so we left the kids and went over to the old Altamont High School... that will soon be torn down, replaced by the new high school... we ate dinner and visited with some of the people I went to school with. It was a fun night.

Saturday morning we all gathered at Grandma & Grandpa's patio and pavilion for a yummy breakfast... then drove over to Altamont for the parade... Wyatt was able to ride his unicycle in the parade with Gabe, Taylor, and Grandpa Hansen... they even won an award. After the parade we all went back to Grandma & Grandpa's for lunch, and lots of play... like volleyball, the cake walk, a water fight, balloon toss, four-wheeler rides, kickball, the sawdust game, human fooseball, catch, dinner, ultimate frisbee and lots more... Our ultimate frisbee game was interrupted when we all decided that it was time to head back to Altamont to watch the fireworks. The fireworks actually started at a decent time of night... which I was glad for... Darby fell asleep watching them... and the other kids loved them, as usual. It was a great day filled with family. I am so grateful for the pioneers and their sacrifice so that we can enjoy so much today. We have much to be thankful for...
